Port Elliot New Mid Century Kitchen

Located on the Fleurieu Peninsular, this is a home full of simplicity, refined details, and functional solutions.

Due to the specialized nature of this architecturally designed kitchen, it presented some challenges. The integrated fridge required distinct ventilation requirements and these were achieved through vents in the door and provided through space at the back of the adjacent drawers.

The wall line returning towards the pantry is intentionally presented as part of the kitchen with the whole wall and the door into the pantry in veneer, this requires a seamless combination of wall construction and cabinetry design and installation which we were able to achieve after detailed consultation with the builder.

This residence was designed by Genesin Studio architects in Stepney and built by Overall Homes of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Design Features

American Oak veneer to contribute to a modern, fresh, industrial feel which celebrates the materials used in the construction of the home
Unique detailed facets of this kitchen include the orientation of the veneer, the drawer fronts being horizontal and the doors and tall units vertical except for the open display shelving, this adds a level of interest and a dynamic element to the simple design
The end panels have been specially thickened which contrasts with the presence of fine shadow lines which flow all around the underside of the island benchtop as well as below the kickers and between the ceiling and the cabinetry
The different height of kick boards in the kitchen add interest and give a floating effect to the drawers on the back wall
Inside the cabinets special fittings are provided to suit the client’s requirements
Power points are concealed behind the cabinetry, specialized bin fittings and the integrated fridge doors add to the practical wisdom of the kitchen without disrupting the aesthetics
